The year started well, I was happy to be making a positive start with some great jobs even though the recession is biting.

But last week I found out my cat Shmitten had cancer and yesterday she died. I loved her so very much and she will be so badly missed. A little piece of me is gone today.

I love you sweetpea, rest in peace baby.

How are you all?

It's been a busy year on the whole and I have not managed to get much personal work in, no muse images :( but lots of time to reflect on where I want the series to go.

If you are in the USA you will see a few spiral book covers emerge over the next year. I have produced about six or seven over the course of the year ... they tend towards the 'buffy' genre for some reason? never really had spiral down as that but it's fun taking the style down unexpected paths as is often the case in the commercial world. Some CD covers too and a bit of advertising work for trojan condoms and the south bank center.

Some exhibitions with my new agent.

Lots of work in my illustrative stylee too - [link] - been having real fun on the editorial scene with that style and in the spare time I have mustered I have been concentrating on developing that approach ... I have a sneaking feeling the styles may get a little closer over the course of next year. Hopefully I will have some time to dedicate to spiral in 09.

You all have a good one!!

I really did need to write something new here ... but being busy and boring I had not much to write and even less time to think about it!!

Now I do have something interesting to pass on. The very talented author Melissa Marr has joined us here ... please go visit her [link] if we are lucky she might even write something.

I had the pleasure of creating two book covers for her 'wicked lovely' (even the title is great!) ... [link] and 'ink exchange' (another great title) [link] , the text was added by the also hugely talented Si Scott.

Spiral & Darren are interviewed in the next edition of Advanced Photoshop magazine.

Spiral is appearing in the Italian mag Next.

photography

I don't use stock, the photography is my own, the girl is my muse (the whole point of the series of erotic images) and the toys are sourced bought & photographed by me, and all of the landscape elements are my own photography.

Wow!

I was pretty surprised to get nominated for erotic photographer of the year, I was even more surprised to get shortlisted. It is a testament to an open minded panel of judges that would allow manipulated work to reach the final ... I was dead chuft! I did not win but I was truly touched to be amongst the four finalists ... at least one other is here on DA ... my work was exhibited at night of the senses and is now in a semi-permanent show i London which will travel on to the skin two expo next month.

Ink!

I designed a tat for Sair ... you can see it here ... ... I have had a tree on my left upper arm and have now designed an extention so it will come down to my elbow and across my back. A tattoo adiction might be a dangerous thing in the hands of an illustrator.

Muse

Three more shoots with Sarah are in the bag and I will be starting work on them soon so more muse series to come. Also setting up shoots with new models so I will be starting my portrait series soon

***

Exhibition

Exhibited ... ... in London last month, it also appeared on the back cover of design week I believe. Part of a collective instilation with my new agent ... about 60 artists took part and the horizon ran through the instilation with each artist creating a panel. I also did a piece in my darren stylee ... ... see if you put it next to the spiral one they join.
